To the mountains

Below you will find just a few ideas for trips that start right outside your door. We hope they will inspire you to spend an active holiday in the highest mountains in Poland. The peaks and valleys of the Western Tatras are particularly easy to reach from us, but you can also visit those located in their higher, eastern part without the slightest problem.

Dolina Chochołowska

The longest and largest valley in the Polish Tatras, about 10 km long. An ideal place for gentle walks with children or the elderly, and at the same time a great starting point for trips to the higher parts of the Western Tatras.

An additional advantage of this place is the possibility of getting around by bike.

Rusinowa Polana

A cult place in the High Tatras. Many people start their Tatra adventure here - an easy approach of approx. 50 min - also with children and an amazing panorama of mountain peaks.

Dolina Małej Łąki

It deserves priority because it is the closest Tatra valley to Tatra Wood House, and also because it is one of the most beautiful places in the area. It can be a destination in itself or the first stage of a longer mountain trip.

The valley offers phenomenal panoramas as well as unusual experiences resulting from contact with unspoiled mountain nature. You can also go on a trip here in the footsteps of old pastoral traditions. Mała Łąka is a mecca for cave climbers - it is here that the entrances to the most popular and largest caves in the Tatras are located, but - note - their penetration is only possible after completing a special course.

Giewont

The symbol of Zakopane, a peak that is simply a must-see during a visit to the Tatras. It rises above the city with precipitous, almost vertical, 600-meter walls. From the south, it is relatively easy to reach from the Kondracka Pass, but - be careful - the summit dome of Giewont is equipped with chains and requires special caution. At the top, you will see a fifteen-meter cross placed there by Zakopane parishioners in 1901.

Dolina Kościeliska

One of the most beautiful and interesting places in the Tatras. A walk to the shelter on Hala Ornak is one of the most enjoyable experiences in the Tatras. It is often the initial stage of the hike, especially if you go to Ornak or to one of the caves open to tourists - Mylna, Raptawicka or Smocza Jama. Note: in the underground areas, helmets and a source of light will be useful, preferably a headlamp.

Wonderful views and extraordinary experiences await tourists who go to Smreczyński Staw. From here, you can see the highest peak of the Western Tatras - Bystra. The lake is only half an hour's drive from the shelter.

Sarnia Skała

The best and easily accessible viewpoint on Giewont. The peak rises above two beautiful valleys - Strążyska and Białego. Both begin in Zakopane and offer phenomenal mountain experiences after a relatively short walk. The classic trip to Sarnia Skała is one that begins in one and ends at the mouth of the other valley. They are connected by a trail called Droga Pod Reglami - a favorite place for walks for Zakopane residents and tourists. Note: the peak made of steep dolomites is exposed and requires careful movement.

For skiing

Zakopane is the ski capital of Poland. Both beginners and advanced skiers and snowboarders will find suitable routes here.

Kasprowy Wierch

The highest situated ski area in Poland. From the nearby Kuźnice there is a year-round cable railway to the top. Maintained ski trails are serviced by two chairlifts - in the Goryczkowy and Gąsienicowy cirques. Kasprowy is also a paradise for ski touring skiers. This rapidly developing type of white sport finds excellent conditions here, long ski slopes and varied approaches.

Polana Szymoszkowa

If you are looking for a family ski resort with the best view of the Tatras, we recommend Polana Szymoszkowa, located on the slopes of Gubałówka. The resort is served by two modern chairlifts, which mark out various routes - from those completely easy for beginners to the longest route intended for those who feel quite confident on the snow. The Kids Park deserves attention, an interesting place for the youngest skiers, allowing them to take their first steps on the snow in an atmosphere of great fun.

Biegówki w Zakopanem

Skiers who prefer cross-country skiing to downhill skiing will also find plenty of places in Zakopane and the surrounding area that are professionally prepared for this sport. The Central Sports Centre trails located near the Wielka Krokiew ski jump are at the forefront of this offer. You can also run on Równia Krupowa, on Droga Pod Reglami, in Kiry. Of course, you will also find equipment rentals and instructors here if you are just starting your adventure with cross-country skiing.

For relaxation and health

For almost two hundred years, Zakopane and Podhale have been visited by tourists looking for a quiet place where they can improve their health thanks to the beneficial effects of thermal waters and fresh mountain air.

Thermal waters

Bounded from the south by the Tatras and from the north by the Pieniny, Podhale is a natural underground reservoir for water, which extracts the most valuable minerals and microelements from rocks. The water extracted from great depths gives its treasures to the users of thermal pools. You will find them in Zakopane, Chochołów, Szaflary, Białka and Bukowina.

For the spirit

Tatra Wood House cottages are located in Krzeptówki, an unusual place on the map of Zakopane. Here you can combine active rest on the Tatra trails with an interesting program of sightseeing in the Capital of the Tatras.

The Sanctuary in Krzeptówki

The church dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima was built as a votive offering for the survival of Pope John Paul II from an assassination attempt. Today it is one of the most important places of worship of this figure, particularly associated with Zakopane and the Tatras.

There is also an altar here, moved from the Wielka Krokiew, where it was used during a memorable mass in 1997.

Kosciół Zakopane

Historical trails of Zakopane

Krzeptówki is the home of the first and one of the most outstanding Tatra guides - Jan Krzeptowski Sabała. He accompanied the great propagator of Zakopane, Tytus Chałubiński, on his first mountain expeditions. It is worth starting your visit to the town by seeing the original cottage where the Tatra Homer lived.

All the sites on the Trail of Outstanding Zakopaneers and the Zakopane Style Trail are certainly worth visiting.
